Ignite passion for science with Fireworks and Fairgrounds this October Half Term at Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium

This October half term is set to go off with a bang at Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium as families are invited to dive into the exciting world of fireworks and fairgrounds, from Friday 19 October to Monday 4 November

Spark your family’s curiosity in science and engineering through the fun and frivolous world of fireworks and fairgrounds. Find out what gives fireworks their colour, whizz and bang in an explosive live science show, and children can get creative in the Invention Studio by designing and constructing their own fairground rides. The team will be out on the exhibition floor at various times demonstrating a VR rollercoaster experience, spectacular spectroscopy and creating fire from ice! All these exciting activities are free with entry – book online at least three days in advance and save 25% on general admission to the Science Centre.

“The team here is so passionate about inspiring children and showing families that science is fun and engaging,” said Emily Mace, Director of STEM Strategy. “Exploring popular science themes like dinosaurs, CSI and now fireworks through hands-on activities and exciting demonstrations gives us the opportunity to spark curiosity in science while also offering families a fun-filled day out.”

The theatre continues in the planetarium with the premiere of a brand new national touring live-action planetarium show, You Are Here!, developed by Winchester Science Centre in collaboration with Glasgow-based theatre company The Occasion. The 30-minute show combines live performance with the immersive 360o full-dome planetarium experience. (You Are Here! is available on selected days only from 24 October – 4 November.)

For working parents looking to provide a stimulating holiday experience for their children, the Science Centre’s science-themed holiday club offers just that. The holiday club is for children aged 5-9 years and comprises an exciting programme of activities, experiments and challenges that help children explore and explain the world around them. The Fireworks and Fairgrounds theme sees children explore everything from the elements to forces and mechanics to explosions!
