An adventure 65 million years in the making and loved by generations of dinosaur fans, but what's the science behind the classic movie Jurassic Park? Join our adult and child experts at Science Explained to find out before watching a screening of the movie itself!

We all know the story...a theme park is set to open but it’s unlike anything ever seen before. This one is populated with dinosaurs created using prehistoric DNA. Welcome to Jurassic Park! But what’s the science behind the movie – let's find out.

Come and meet children from our very own Young Steering Group as they showcase their dinosaur expertise and collections. They’ll be joined by experts from the Isle of Wight’s Dinosaur Isle Museum who’ll be bringing along real-life dinosaur artifacts. Wow! Then sit back and relax as you enjoy a screening of Jurassic Park under a blanket of stars in the Planetarium. And that’s not all! After the movie, Dr Neil Gostling from the University of Southampton, will be delving into the science behind some of the key moments of the movie.

Your Science Explained ticket includes:

  • Opportunity to meet our Young Steering Group experts and discover their collections
  • Time to explore artifacts from Dinosaur Isle Museum
  • A screening of Jurassic Park under the stars of the Planetarium
  • A talk about the science of the movie hosted by Dr Neil Gostling
  • Hands-on fossil exhibits and models
  • Time to purchase drinks and snacks from the cafe

***Please note that the exhibition floors will not be open during this event. Doors to the Science Centre will open at 5:15pm for the chance to meet the adult and child experts and explore their collections. The movie will begin at 6:20pm.***
