Explosive Post-Christmas Fun

Betwixtmas? Chrimbo Limbo? The Norwegians even call it Romjul. No one quite knows what the period between Christmas and New Year is but at Winchester Science Centre it is guaranteed to be explosive, exciting and awe-inspiring!

From Sunday 27 December 2020 to Monday 4 January 2021, including New Year’s Day, experience dancing fire in our free live science show and journey into the stars in the Planetarium. Head to Bio:Space for seasonal nature activities and experience the exciting interactive exhibits of our brand new immersive sound and hearing exhibition.





FREE Live Science Show

Santa may be taking a well-earned break, but our Inspirers will be back for another exciting free live science show, Sounds Like Science. They will be delving into the science behind the sounds through intriguing demos and fun audience participation. Expect exciting surprises as you find out what sound is before witnessing the explosive finish of the hugely popular dancing fire of the Rubens Tube.  

Two sound sensory (SS) suitable shows are available for those with sensitivities to loud noises.

Show times are:

10:00, 10:40, 11:20, 12:00 (SS), 12:40, 14:00, 14:40, 15:20 and 16:00 (SS).






TWO Mesmerising Live Planetarium Shows

Relax in the UK’s largest standalone Planetarium and enjoy some post-Christmas fun.

Ideal for younger audiences is Simply Space. Head off on a journey through the night sky to spot stars, planets and even the Milky Way as our enthusiastic presenter tells captivating stories about the constellations appearing on the incredible 360 degree dome.

And in The Planet Show, you'll begin your adventure on Earth where you will be able to marvel at the constellations above you. You'll then be whisked into orbit to experience the impressive scale of the Solar System. 

Show times are:

Simply Space (suitable for younger visitors) - 9:30 (C), 11:00 (C), 11:45 (R), 14:00 (C), 15:30 (R)

The Planet Show (suitable for all audiences) - 10:15 (C), 13:15 (R), 14:45 (C), 16:15 (R)





Come rain, shine - or maybe even snow! - there will be lots of activities taking place both inside and outside in our nature experimentation zone. Taking inspiration from the weather there will be lots of winter-themed nature activities to spark everyone's curiosity. 

Make sure you bring a coat so that you can enjoy our activities outside! 

BIO:SPACE can be found behind our Gravity Run exhibit, next to the cafe and is open all day.




Brand New Interactive Sound and Hearing Exhibition

Embark on an exhilarating adventure through our brand new interactive exhibition themed around sound, vibration and hearing. 

Venture inside the huge 10m long playable guitar, experience the wonder of acoustics inside the sonic rocket and journey inside our giant ear to explore its inner workings. There's so much inspirational and interactive fun to be had, find out more on our New For 2020 page.



How to Book

We are currently operating a reduced capacity so all general admission, planetarium and live science show tickets, including Annual Pass visits, must be booked in advance online and will include an arrival time slot.
