Test the Water - science show

Dates: 27th January to 10th March 2024 Weekends and school holidays
Location: Science Theatre
Duration: 20 mins
Tickets: Free with general admission

It’s the clash of the titans! It’s hot versus cold water! Who will win in this epic battle of the aquas? Let’s find out how hot and cold water have differing scientific effects in our brand new free live science show, Test the Water.

We all know the difference between hot and cold water right? One makes us warm or can even burn us and one makes us cold. Well, yes, but there’s science behind those temperatures! Cold water is denser than hot water. This means that the molecules in cold water move slowly and those in hot water move rapidly. But what does this mean? Join us in Test the Water as our cold and hot water contenders take part in some awesome science experiments to find out!

Watch our contenders take on the epic can crusher experiment. How will hot affect the shape of the drinks can? Will cold crumble under the pressure? Find out how convection plays a role in the movement of the liquids. And who will fire the film canister rocket the furthest? Will it be hot that comes out victorious or will cold claim the win? Let’s find out together.

In Test the Water, an exciting free science show, live experiments and fascinating facts will delve into the science of water temperatures. This action-packed 20-minute show will take an in-depth look into the scientific make-up of hot and cold water and how the effects each one can have in different situations. It’s free with general admission so don’t miss out!
