International Women's Day Comes To Winchester Science Centre
On Monday 7th March 2016, Winchester Science Centre opened its doors to 80 female students and 21 female STEM Ambassadors for a day of gadgets, gizmos and careers.
Every student had the opportunity to take part in a variety of exciting STEM challenges supported by female STEM Ambassadors from a variety of STEM backgrounds. The students also took part in a speed networking session during which they could talk to the STEM Ambassadors about their jobs, and completed the 'People Like Me' quiz. These latter activities allowed the students to explore potential careers paths and gain personal and professional insight into the vast array of STEM careers. Emily Thorpe-Smith, STEM Resources Manager said “International Women’s Day is always a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and highlight the impact that women have within STEM industry. Throughout the day local female STEM ambassadors worked alongside students, to encourage the development of future STEM skills and demonstrate how females can use their own natural tendencies with the STEM sector. ”
