Experience a 'pick ‘n’ mix' of brilliant hands-on science and fiery live science shows at Science of Sweets this Easter at Winchester Science Centre, running daily from 5 -23 April (10am to 5pm).

“We are having great fun with sweets,” said Emily Mace, Director of STEM Strategy at Winchester Science Centre. “Our live science show – Extreme Sweets – is filled with big demonstrations that we’re sure children and grown-ups will enjoy, including an icing sugar flame thrower, exploding sweets and colder-than-ice snow cones!”

“As well as the live show, our talented team of Inspirers and Curiosity Officers will be encouraging children to get stuck in and make their own Willy Wonker-inspired sweet machines in the Invention Studio.”

The live shows and themed activities are free with General Admission. Tickets include two floors of interactive exhibits featuring the new zone Explorer:Space, a walk through giant colon and running track, as well as a large outdoor picnic and play area with trim trail and water exhibit.

There's also direct access from the Science Centre to Magdalen Hill Down Butterfly Conservation reserve where the eagle-eyed can find a wealth of wildlife, including species of butterflies that are unique to the reserve.

No trip would be complete without experiencing the UK’s largest standalone planetarium. The programme this Easter includes the live show Flight Through the Universe and film shows We Are Stars and Polaris, the Space Submarine.

General Admission costs £13.20 if paying on the door (with donation added) but if you book online more than 3 days in advance you will receive 25% off. Add a planetarium show for £3.50 per person. Under 3’s go free.

For families in need of childcare this Easter, the Science Centre offers a science-themed holiday club for children age 5 – 9, available for day and week bookings.
