This weekend at Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium

Visitors to Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium this weekend, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 June, are in for a treat. We have a brilliant line-up of events and activities guaranteed to entertain the whole family including live science shows, a free planetarium performance and two blockbuster movies. This is in addition to all the great stuff families can normally enjoy at the Science Centre - the exhibits, planetarium shows, Invention Studio challenges, outdoor picnic and play and exploring the South Downs National Park. And in celebration of Armed Forces Day, Armed Forces Identity Cards will give free general admission on both days.

In the Space Marquee, Jon Chase, one of the most dynamic and engaging science communicators in the UK, returns to present a new live science show 'Fabulous Flying Facts!'. Every show Jon delivers is exciting, packed with science and communicated in a way that children and adults enjoy, understand and remember. In 'Fabulous Flying Facts!' Jon explores the basics of aerodynamics using practical activities to investigate the four forces of flight: thrust, drag, lift and gravity. Show tickets cost £1 per person, purchased alongside general admission. Shows will be taking place at 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 3.30pm.

At 1.10pm in the planetarium an experimental performance will take the audience on a tour of the Universe in a way that hasn't been done before. 'You Are Here!' is a story for children and adults that puts everything in its place – literally right at the centre of the Universe! Combining live performance with planetarium film, You Are Here! is a unique project developed in collaboration with Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium and funded by Arts Council England. The performance is free. Reserve tickets online in advance to guarantee a place.

Live, presenter-led planetarium shows and film shows will be taking place throughout the weekend.

On Saturday evening we are showing two blockbuster films in the planetarium, Doctor Strange (12A) at 5.20pm and Arrival (12A) at 8pm as part of our Teen Screen and Twilight Movies series.
