Spooky revelations and monster fun this October half term
Halloween is coming to Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium with lots of spooky goings-onto keep the whole family terrifyingly well-entertained this half term (20-30 October). Throughout the week, visitors will be shown the science behind some of the best tricks of stage, screen and Halloween during the live Spooky Science show. This myth-busting experience will inspire guests to look beyond the smoke and mirrors of magical happenings and use science to solve supernatural riddles.
"Science at its core is about understanding the universe, asking the big questions and investigating the whys and hows",͟ said Dr Ben Littlefield, Head of Education at Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium. "This October half term, Winchester Science Centre is exploring some of the possible scientific explanations for the spooky, the unexplained and the mysterious. Join us for our live science shows on the science behind haunted houses, make some ectoplasm polymers and delve into the mysteries of life itself with pumpkin DNA extraction."
The Spooky Science show takes place daily at 11am, noon, 1pm and 2pm. Entry is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Access to the show is free of charge to annual pass holders and with general admission.
Winchester Science Centre has also teamed up with Bright Sparks to run its half term Monster Science Holiday Club for up to 24 children aged 5-9. The club is designed to enhance children’s understanding of STEM in a fun, engaging and memorable way. Each day focuses on a different theme and no two days are the same. Parents can drop off their little Frankensteins for a full programme of ghoul-themed experiments, physical and mental games, and arts-based activities to help them explore and understand the world around them.
Finally, on Tuesday 31 October the STEM NOW team and IBM is running a special one-off event for Halloween Spooky Science: Tech, Trick & Treat with extended opening hours until 7.30pm
The Monster Science Holiday Club takes place from 9am-4pm between Monday 23 and Friday 27 October. Additional breakfast and afternoon clubs are available. For further details view Spooky Science Half Term Activities and Monster Science Holiday Club.
