The Barefoot Computing Project - book a free school workshop before the end of July
Winchester Science Centre is Delighted to be Supporting The Barefoot Project
What is The Barefoot Computing Project?
The Barefoot Project has been funded by the DfE and BT to develop cross-curricular teaching resources for Primary teachers to help with the new aspects of the Computing curriculum. Alongside these resources, self-teach materials have been produced, so that teachers can develop their own understanding of the concepts and practices of computing. All teachers can access these resources for free at www.barefootcas.org.uk.
How Can I Find Out More?
Due to the success of the Barefoot project to date, BT has agreed to support the project from March until the end of September. This means that the Barefoot workshops will continue in schools across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight (and nationwide) until the end of September. Winchester Science Centre is committed to delivering these workshops and wants to reach as many teachers as possible in the region. Over 50 schools and more than 300 teachers in Hampshire have already benefited from these workshops and your school could too.
The workshops are be run by Barefoot volunteers, Computing professionals who are passionate about what they do and keen to share their enthusiasm with teachers. They have been trained to deliver the workshop by staff at Winchester Science Centre who are coordinating the project in Hampshire. There will be plenty of time for teachers to discuss any fears they may have around any of the new concepts, whether this be around terminology or relevance to the primary curriculum. The volunteers will spend time introducing the free Barefoot resources that all primary teachers have full free access to, and can remain as a support for your school for the following 12 weeks.
The resources are designed to be cross-curricular and many feature ‘unplugged activities’ that do not require a computer at all! They available at http://barefootcas.org.uk/and include self-teach materials for teachers and exemplar lesson plans and resources.
Workshops are running as 90 minute sessions, and in terms of timing, we are happy to fit with what works best for you – whether this be a morning session, an afternoon or a twilight. They are also free!
